To Our Nation’s President, Mr. Donald J. Trump:

17 July 2025

For some unknown but bad reason, current topics of debate relating to music have involved you. As a public official, you must know how your place is set above the people but behind the laws of the land. And because Music represents “freedom of speech” in its entirety for “the people”, therefore, no room whatsoever for interference in music by a government official, in any way, should be allowed.

I am writing concerning the “Music Modernization Act of 2018” which was signed by you, for Americans to adhere to carefully. The exact content of this 67-page law is, today, available to be read on www.Congress.gov. I ask that you respect the United States Constitution, as well as the founding documents of this nation, where we can clearly see how Americans have been granted fair copyright protection in the arts, by taking the Music Modernization Law completely off America’s sheets.

A movie recently was made by Hollywood which shines most terrifying truth upon the reality of the putrid acts of hatred against America’s wonderful national hero, Woody Guthrie, who was a tenant of your father’s leading up to the time he was too terribly punished to be described in this letter! Evidenced by Guthrie’s song called, Old Man Trump, your parent’s role in “domination” of artists is not the best legacy your father could have bestowed on America.

And now we are in 2025, with a horrific law that was not ever once set before the people of America to vote upon. That’s the worse condemnation of all. You should ask yourself how that single act of ignoring asking for the true desires of the American public makes the Music Modernization Act’s content “illegality” in the truest sense of the American word.

This sad and idiotic law revokes copyright protection in the music industry for the financial benefit of streaming companies. With the MMA, over 1000 serious copyright infringement lawsuits against streaming companies were just swept away. The MMA restricts regular practice of law, too. It does this by diverting artists who complain away from the courts and instead only to the United States Copyright Office for their adjudication. This stops the right to a fair trial and puts the staff of the Copyright Office in an awkward no-man’s-land.

The MMA should never be adhered to, not even once, for there is a delicate balance between war and peace that copyright protection allows by enabling artists to stake their claim in this world.

As President of the United States, you could choose to advise every Good Lawyer to protect every artist in music as though their own house was about to be burned to the ground, or their own family was waiting terrified of being stalked on the street and murdered in broad daylight. This is what theft of copyright protection, and the halting of Freedom Of Speech inside America, brings about most definitely for, one way or another, every right to own one’s work will be fought for. The evidence is everywhere in American history. It’s not something to scoff at lightly, sir! History tells us all this.

The dangerous aspect of the Music Modernization Act from 2018 is that it allows for a complete takeover of the American government due to intense CASH MONEY earned by artists but then redistricted by conglomerates such as ASCAP, and their dipsy-daisy, eentsy-weentsy, ittie-bittie-boo, tiny but dreamy circle of gangsters. The only safe channel for music’s earnings is in the trusted hands of the artists themselves because the billions of daily dollars streaming in from American musical recordings are incredibly capable of destroying everything if placed in the bank accounts of mad men and women. That’s why I claim how our safe boundaries have been overstepped—and all because of the massive income generated by a single song.

Despite the temptation of greed, and the will of outside forces to take over The American Dream, the time to revert is now. To end fully the MMA is the one, true answer.

The legacy of great heroes like Woody Guthrie and thousands more people who create the music that binds the community will never die. Their songs are immortal because they are filled with life itself. American music is known everywhere in this world. Our nation’s music happily grants freely to the entire country a “promise of hope” through song. However, without staunch and freely united men and women able to act in tandem within the American judiciary system, more than one hundred years of abuse against America’s songwriters has never been righted and never will.

I ask that you change the course of history forever by righting this law today, sir. Please help us return to Freedom of Speech and due copyright protection by ending the 2018 Music Modernization Act.

Sincerely,

Corinne Devin Sullivan – One American.
